Silent Night, Holy Night

On the tracks of the world famous Christmas song

Year by year, Advent and Christmas offer a most attractive and emotionally touching experience to all Salzburg visitors. A special trip at this time of the year follows the tracks of “Silent Night, Holy Night” to Oberndorf, where the priest Joseph Mohr and the teacher Franz Xaver Gruber created the world’s most beautiful Christmas song and sang it for the very first time on 24th of December 1818. A memorial chapel can be visited there, and a post office sells special stamp for your Christmas cards. We enjoy the view from the Salzach Dam across to Laufen, a Bavarian town once belonging to Salzburg, before we drive on to the tiny little village Arnsdorf with Gruber’s former school and appartment.
